We sometimes think of poverty as being homeless and hungry. But a greater poverty is a spirit who is shunned, unwanted and unloved. Let us therefore touch those who are poor, according to the graces that we have received, and let us not be ashamed or slow to do this humble work. – Mother Theresa
There are many reasons why people are homeless. Our mission is to be on the street with them and to help with their immediate needs for comfort, food and support until such time that they are able to do so for themselves.
We started working with the homeless about 20 years ago, with peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and fed about 25 -50 people. Over the years we added blankets and some clothes.
Today we give out hamburgers, bananas, sleeping bags, back packs, hooded sweat shirts, t-shirts, underwear, jeans, shoes and socks. We provide resources, referrals and encouragement to connect the homeless to needed services facilitating their ability to leave the streets. Partner with congregations, nonprofits and other organizations.
